inihaircolorWhiskey & Honey Salon, a swanky new Carmel, Indiana hair uber-specialized studio, where the niche is color — and not color like blond, brunette or red. Think apricot laced with copper or that toffee, caramel and honey. The hair artistry comes courtesy of owner Will Turpin, who hands customers their color menus and considers himself an artist. He says he thinks in terms of hues and tones and sees hair as a canvas. He gets so involved in the evolving color process of clients’ hair, he says he wakes up in the middle of the night with an idea. He jots it down so he can remember to mention it the next time the client comes in.

The 3-month-old studio has one chair in a tiny room tucked away in Sola Salon Studios (a potpourri of individual salons). As clients sit and let Turpin work his magic, they can enjoy a mimosa, wine or a glass of champagne. He says people are used to going to one person for everything hair when Whiskey & Honey expands to a standalone location, Turpin plans to break that mold with a studio that is departmentalized. The salon will feature hair colorists who focus only on color, and stylists who do only cutting.
