Maple Whiskey Jelly Shots

whiskey-jello-shotsMaple Whiskey Jelly Shots from reddit’s vermontgirl
Ingredients
2 packets Knox gelatine powder
1/3 cup maple syrup
3 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons vanilla ice cream
1 cup Cabin Fever (maple whiskey)

Directions
Pour maple syrup into small sauce pan. Add water and gelatin packets. Let sit 3 minutes. Add ice cream. Over med-low heat, whisk until smooth and all the gelatin is dissolved. Turn off heat, stir in whiskey. Pour into pan and refrigerate overnight.
I used a meatloaf pan. I sprayed the inside with a flavorless baking spray and wiped it down with a paper towel, just so the jelly could come off the pan easier. The ice cream settled a bit to the bottom, which made the pretty white layer. Totally unexpected but I like the way it looks. So fan-cy.
I’ve been getting all my jelly shot ideas from Jelly Shot Test Kitchen
Edit: Be careful with gelatin to not warm it too much- definitely not to the point of boiling (which will ruin it’s thickening ability). When you’re gently heating the syrup, water, gelatin, ice cream on the stove- it should only take a few minutes to dissolve the gelatin completely.

Couch By Couchwest Online Music Festival #CXCW14

Yes indeedy it is that time of year, If it’s SXSW it’s CXCW  March 9th through March 15th

Find us on WebTwitterFacebook and Instagram

Let’s face it, we’re all too broke to go to Austin, and even if we had the money, we couldn’t get out of work anyway. There’s this pesky thing called “life” that keeps getting in the way. Allow us to introduce you to Couch by Couchwest.

960X960CXCW is an annual online music festival that is for everyone. No badges, lanyards, bracelets, parking fees, ticket lines, exclusive parties, VIP tents, porta-potties, babysitters, dogsitters, expensive beer prices, or crappy hotel rooms…just the sweet comfort of your own couch. Here’s how it works, artists and bands from all over the globe record a video performance for us from their living rooms, kitchens, porches, bathrooms, you name it…pretty much anywhere but a stage…and we post them during the week of the festival (March 9 – 15, 2014).

Listen, you’re not the only person out there stuck in an office or a classroom or at home while all the supposed “cool kids” are trudging through the crowds of Austin. We are here for you, friends! So crack open a beer and a laptop, crank up the volume, and enjoy the couch!

Musicians: Please upload your unique to CXCW 2014 video (i.e. for the CXCW festival) to YouTube or Vimeo and send the link to us via the below form or to cxcwest at gmail dot com. (Think of this video as your performance for the Couch by Couchwest audience.)

  • Videos do not have to be recorded on a couch, but they should be recorded essentially anywhere but a stage (we strongly encourage creativity). See these videos from CXCW 2012 for examples.
  • Submitted videos should be unique (i.e. for the CXCW audience). Please do not send us promos, EPK’s, live concert footage, music videos, slideshows, etc…
  • Low-budget iPhone videos are absolutely acceptable, in fact, they are encouraged.
  • For the love of god, no lip syncing.
  • You may do more than one video, but if we run out of time we may post both videos at the same time, or post only one. Your best bet is to do one kick-ass video that knocks our socks off!
  • Please tag your video with “CXCW2014″ so that we may keep track of it on our YouTube channel (if you use Vimeo or some other service, please do the same).
  • Also please include where you are from and any links you wish us to use (website, facebook, twitter, etc…) so that we may point our readers to you.
  • If you are uploading your video prior to the start of the festival, please set it to “Unlisted”. This can be changed once the festival starts. Setting it to “Private” means we won’t be able to see it.
  • We will be your new best friends if you submit your video link in this format – Youtube: Share: Embed: Video Size: 640 x 360/480, copy/paste
  • We love all types of music and will try to post everything (unless overly offensive of course…i.e. Nickleback covers). Only Darius Rucker* is allowed to send in a video of “Wagon Wheel.”

*The Darius Rucker “Wagon Wheel” provision was enacted in 2012 well before his version was even recorded, and quite frankly, we are amazed and sickened at the power we wield. Proof. This provision still stands and is henceforth known as the Darius Rucker Wagon Wheel Provision of 2012.

Those in the crowd: we want to see how you spend the CXCW festival! Send us pics of your CXCW festivities, recipes, haikus, pet photos, avant garde performance art, kegerator, moonshine still, etc… viacxcwest at gmail dot com.

We are currently accepting submissions, but we will not begin posting them until March 9. Receiving videos ahead of time makes life a lot easier on this end, and allows us more time to watch videos and drink beer during the week (hint hint).  The last day to submit photos/videos is at 12:00pm Noon Eastern/9:00am Pacific time March 15th!

Remember, we do hand out dubious awards at the end of the festival so be creative and get your rock on!

Make sure to use the tag #CXCWposter to be entered.

The CXCW2014 Prize Pool
Participants from all contests (except beard & mustache) will be entered into one big CXCW raffle at the end where we will draw names at random for each of the prizes listed below. More than 60% of young people aged 18 to 24 prefer to drink whiskey

girlwithjackMore than 60% of young people aged 18 to 24 prefer to drink whiskey, according to a new survey to mark 100 days to World Whisky Day.

However, more than 25% of young people prefer to drink whiskey in non-traditional ways such as with Coke or other mixers.

World Whisky Day founder Blair Bowman said that whiskey is increasingly a worldwide drink.

“In the Far East and South America it’s incredibly popular amongst all ages and now it seems we’re seeing a new generation at home discovering its charms and versatility,” Bowman added.

“This year’s World Whisky Day on May 17th will be bigger and better than ever before. With the Commonwealth Games, Homecoming and the Ryder Cup the focus is really on Scotland in 2014 so we’re expecting to see events in every continent and some special celebrations here.”

Endorsed by VisitScotland, Scotch Whisky Experience and Heritage Centre and Scotland Food & Drink, the inaugural World Whisky Day was held in 2012 and saw over 20,000 people attend over 200 events all over the world.

The event is aimed at boosting the profile of whiskey across the world, while stimulating interest in whiskey.

Pappy Van Winkle Whiskey Mystery

pappy van winkleBy Jeremy Wilson
Senior Staff Writer  The Kernal

In a daring inside job, 222 bottles of legendary Pappy Van Winkle bourbon were stolen from a distillery in Kentucky. With the crime remaining unsolved, the finger of blame is now pointing at obsessive billionaires, local residents and celebrity chefs.

During the dying days of Summer last year, something very strange was happening in a nondescript 1920s industrial building on the outskirts of Frankfort, Kentucky. The building in question belongs to the oldest continuously-operating distillery in the United States, Buffalo Trace, and over a couple of months somebody was helping themselves to its prize store of “Pappy Van Winkle” bourbon. By the time the theft was discovered, 222 bottles of Pappy had vanished in what NBC News would later call “the bourbon theft of the decade”.
To understand why anyone would go to the effort of spending months siphoning bottles of booze from a secure room in a distillery instead of robbing a bank, you need to know one thing about Pappy Van Winkle: it’s rare. Very rare. The retail value of the 195 bottles of 20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve bourbon and 27 bottles of 13-year-old Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye netted in the heist is about $26,000, but that’s only for the favoured few on good terms with a prestige liquor dealership. Whiskey on the Rocks with Chilling Rocks

whiskey-chilling-rocksThe end of melted water in your whiskey is here, these chilling rocks will keep any drink cool for hours, and do it in style.

Those of you who are connoisseurs of the finer whiskies are keenly aware how refrigerated ice can change the taste of any fine liquor. Most refrigeration units pick up the smells and taste from other refrigerated food. This foul taste can be transferred whether you are drinking a glass of water or even a fine whiskey. By using the Whiskey Chilling Rocks instead of refrigerated ice, you can stabilize the fine taste and fully enjoy the whiskey for which you have probably paid a few pretty pennies.

These Whiskey Chilling Rocks are made from 100% pure soapstone cubes and will not leave any aftertaste. Get your own set of 10 cubes today!

$4,000 Dollar a Bottle Whiskey

Michter’s WhiskeyBy BRUCE SCHREINER, Associated Press | November 29, 2013

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A new whiskey created in Kentucky features a blend of age and scarcity that spiked demand — and its price.

As a result, whiskey fans including celebrities and corporate chiefs are angling to snatch up limited stocks of Michter’s Celebration Sour Mash Whiskey for nearly $4,000 per bottle. Shots won’t come cheap, either, fetching an expected $350 a pop.

Limited-edition offerings, with heftier prices than typical stocks, have become commonplace as American whiskey makers dabble in new flavors to lure customers. But the latest introduction by Michter’s Distillery LLC breaks into a pricing stratosphere that could reverberate across the industry.

“This is kind of new territory,” said industry observer F. Paul Pacult, editor of the newsletter Spirit Journal.

“It’s going to start a whole rush of interest in very high-end bourbons, American whiskeys and American spirits. This kind of throws the challenge out.”

The Michter’s product will reach shelves Monday in select liquor stores, restaurants, bars or hotels in such places as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Aspen, Colo., Chicago, Palm Beach, Fla., Houston and Boston. The company produced a scant 273 bottles of the blend of whiskeys, some aged up to 30 years, and all are spoken for, its top executive said. Read more

The Vaportini Liquor Inhaler is exactly what it sounds like. “About 5 minutes after the vessel containing the spirits is placed on the base, it is ready to consume. The recommended amount of spirits is 1 ounce. One inhales through the straw and holds their breathe for a moment and then exhales.” Apparently, it hits your bloodstream immediately. Higher-proof bourbons, in particular, vape well.  Price: $40
